Local Attractions

Harbortown

See the boat?

One of several keepers!

A very long mast
Postcard worthy, you think?!
Beautiful sunset

Stoney-Baynard Ruins
The Plantation House

I had a picture here, but accidently deleted it.

The back of the Plantation House

Some sample of tabby (which comes from the Spanish word
"tabia" meaning mud wall). This is what the Plantation House was built from.
The tabby (mud walls) were/are actually made from
lime (a combination of crushed oyster shell sand and water),
fresh oyster shell, sand, and water.
Can you see the pieces of oyster shells in this wall?
The Domestic Slave Quarters

Plantation House in the background.

Lawton Stables

Taking advantage of this gorgeous, yet chilly weather we've been having I ventured out to Hilton Head to do a couple errands which happened to be in Sea Pines. Let me tell you, that area is awesome, though I've been several times since moving down here. Not only is it a resort area, but an area full of history, not to mention educational opportunities. I finally got to visit Lawton Stables which I've been wanting to check out for awhile in addition to Stoney-Baynard Ruins ( very interesting and will have to post the history on that later). Also got to climb to the top of the light house at Harbor Town which is very inexpensive and allows you to climb up and down as much as you like as long as you 're wearing the bracelet they give you. Check out all the pix of the day. Even though the local attractions may cost you some $, it's not always that much and there are almost always coupons available to help with cost. You just have to plan ahead and budget for the cost. Too, you can always browse, and hike for free! :)
